The story behind the 100 million dollar pearl
This precious pearl of outstanding proportions was found by a fisherman 10 years ago in the Philippines. The fisherman never imagined it could have value so he kept it in his home as a curiosity and good luck charm. 10 years later he took it to official gemologists who were astounded by what is clearly the biggest pearl ever found in history. The previous world record was six times smaller than this giant.

In the first place this pearl is over 2 feet long. Weight comes in at 34 kilograms that’s over 5 stones. The previous world record was only 6 kilograms. Had the fisherman known its value ten years ago he would probably had lived a very different life style.

The sad truth is that these giant clams are in critical danger because of habitat abuse and over fishing their numbers are in terrible decline. The fact that the biggest pearl in the world worth over $100 million only puts them into more danger.
